Who is Thee Legacy?
Thee Legacy is a South African-based Isicathamiya group Thee Legacy consists of Khanyisani Mazibuko, Philani Duma, Emile Ngcobo, Simphiwe Sikhakhane and Jabulani Mthembu. With a contemporary sound, the band stays rooted in the harmonious tune of Isicathamiya and South African heritage.
Where it all Started?
Thee Legacy hit single Wena Wedwa dropped on January, 2017 and was quickly used as the soundtrack for a Simba Chips Mapha advertisements and broadcasted on more than 2,500 South African TV stations. The single was on Ukhozi and Metro FM charts in the number one spot for more than 8 weeks in 2017.
The group hails from the Inanda, Ntuzuma and Kwa Mashu neighborhoods of Durban, South Africa in the KwaZulu-Natal Region. They have traveled around South Africa spreading the message of peace, love and harmony. Each member’s love for music started at an early age, and together they made their mark in June, 2015 when they won Sing off SA; the first ever A capella competition on SABC 1. SABC 1 is the leading TV channel in South Africa with its coverage reaching 91.2% of the nation’s population.
THEE LEGACY has shared the stage with music giants/greats such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The Soil, Soul Brothers and Amanda Black to name a few. Band member Khanyisani Mazibuko is the son of Albert Mazibuko and Abednigo Mazibuko who is the founding member of Ladysmith Black Mambazo since 1960. Band member Jabulani Mthembu is the grandson of Russell Mthembu who is the retired member of Ladysmith black Mambazo
Thee Legacy was nominated for Best Remix at the SAMA 23 awards in 2017 and have been nominees for Best Remix at the Metro FM Music Awards in 2017. Thee Legacy have also been nominated three times by South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA) for Best Song of the Year, Best Isicathamiya Album, and Best New Group.
Amongst their other accolades Thee Legacy have provided the soundtrack for the drama series Isithembiso currently on Mzansi Magic DSTV channel 161. They have also provided songs for a movie called Wonder Boy the President directed by John Barker Son.Â
