Who is Samthing Soweto ?

Samthing Soweto is a South African award winning singer and songwriter , His full names are Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba and was born in Soweto. Samkelo is the founding member of the popular group ‘The Soil’.  He rose to mainstream fame when he collaborated with Sun-el musician on the hit single ‘Akanamali’ in 2017.

Where It all Started ?

Samthing Soweto began showing a lot of interest in the school choir during his high school days. He met Buhlebendalo Mda in the choir who later became part of ‘The Soil’. Samkelo started having talks with Buhle of starting their own group , which they eventually did and called it the Soil.

Soon after the group started , they approached Music veteran ‘ Sipho Sithole ‘ of Native Rhythms and He signed them into his label. Samthing Soweto started working with another group ‘The Fridge’ while still with The soil and led to contractual disputes and he unfortunately left ‘The Soil’.

Shortly after his departure on the group The Soil, He released his debut album, This N That Without Tempo in 2010. Years later He met up with Sun El Musician and they worked on a record called ‘Akanamali’. Akanamali became one of the biggest songs in 2017 , breaking both artists into the mainstream music industry.

The Akanamali hit maker started working on his second project ‘Isphithiphithi ‘ which was released in 2019. Isphithiphithi broke the record of the highest number of users “pre-adding” the album on Apple Music South Africa.
