Who is Emtee?

Emtee is a south African hip hop artist , Composer and Music producer. He is an award winning artists and currently runs his own record label ‘Emtee Records’.

His real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, born and raised in Berea at the heart of Johannesburg. eMtee ’s hometown of origin is Matatiele, a small town in the Eastern Cape.

Where it all Started

Mthembeni discovered his passion and talent for music when he was just 9 years old at yeoville community school through a talent show.

He started participating in several music activities at his school including the school choir and the marimba band.eMtee completed his high school at Barnato Park High School where he became the youngest choir conductor and band leader in the history of the school.

He began his hussle and taking music professionally in 2008 . he later met Maraza whom he started a rap group titled 4front.

Releasing his first project (DIY 1)

In 2014 , He met up with his long-time friend Mfanafuthi ‘Ruff ’ Nkosi , and they worked on his first commercial EP ( DIY 1 ) . The Ep included the smash hit Roll Up.

In 2015 , Ambitiouz records signed Emtee after hearing Roll UP. He released 3 albums under ambitious namely Avery , Manando , and Diy 2 .

In 2019 he left his record label ambitious records and started his own label EMtee records.

2016 Metro FM Awards- Most awarded artist of the night with a total of four(4) wins for Best Remix for” Roll Up”( Re-Up), Best Music Video, Best Hip Pop Album and viewer’s choice award.

2016 South African Hip Hop award winner taking the biggest award, Song of the year for Roll Up.

EMtee was nominated for 5 SAMAs and walked away with Record of the Year for ”Roll Up”, best male and Rap Album of the year for “Avery”.

2017 EMtee walked away with two awards at the All African Music Awards. Best Southern African Male and Best Remix for Roll Re-Up featuring AKA and Wizkid.

2018 EMtee was nominated for Best R’n’B for his song You and Me featuring Tiwa Savage

2019 eMtee was nominated for Best Hip Hop Album along with South African greats AKA and Nasty C.
