Who is Mduduzi Ncube?

Mduduzi Ncube is a South African afro pop singer and songwriter, Born and bred in Hammarsdale, Kwazulu Natal. He got his first big break when DJ Tira heard his talent and recorded his first single titled ‘Malokazi’ Featuring Berita. From there he went on to release his hit single ‘Sginci’ feat Big Zulu under Inkabi Records.

Growing Up

Mduduzi grew up in a musically oriented family, His sisters used to love singing which resulted in him also falling in love with music at a very young age. However, he only started focusing more on singing when he was in secondary school.
Although Mduduzi grew up loving music, He had other dreams of becoming an engineer but music is the one that always made so much sense to him.

How It all Started

In Grade 10, Together with his friends, they started a group of 4 members and they used to sing together. They were inspired by the likes of The Soil and used to recite some of the soil ‘s music. Even though as a group they were inspired by The Soil, Mdu really looked up to American singer ‘Akon’ and drew much of his inspiration from him.

In their matric year, unfortunately the group had to split up due to a couple of issues they had. Mduduzi continued following his dreams of becoming one of the greatest musicians in the world.

2 years after completing his matric, A friend of his bought him a guitar. He self-taught himself how to play the guitar until he was perfect. This added so much texture to his music and people started enjoying his live performances even more.

He also decided he was not going to sit around and wait, so he started taking the train every day to town to perform with his guitar on the streets of Durban. He would rotate across different places around town and people were enjoying his performances, that he sometimes made a few bucks from some of the performances. During his performances in Durban, he met up with a videographer called Brad Hunter who shot footage of his performance and posted on social media. The video went viral resulting in him getting interviews from stations such as East Coast Radio.

Meeting Up with DJ Tira

He later met someone who recommended he should try submitting his music to afrotainment studios, in Morningside. He decided to travel to afrotainment, even though he didn’t even know the exact address of the studio, He just sat outside on the street where the studio is and just started playing his guitar and singing.

He sat there and played his guitar until DJ Tira heard him from inside and came out to hear him out. DJ Tira was very impressed that he asked him to come inside the studio and they started working on something. They recorded a song titled Malokazi feat Berita which

people really liked. After the Malokazi was released, he went on to perform at a couple of events around Durban including the Fact Durban Rocks event. He continued to work with DJ Tira on a second single titled ‘Falling’.

Signing with Big Zulu ‘s Inkabi Records

In Early 2020, Everything came to a standstill and he had to go back home as the whole country was on lockdown due to covid 19. During this time, he decided to take matters into his own hands again and went on social media and Direct Messaged rapper star ‘Big Zulu’ and fortunately he replied and they started communicating.

He later moved to Johannesburg as the lockdown was easing down and Big Zulu welcomed him with open arms. Big Zulu was so impressed with his talent that he signed him to his label ‘Inkabi Records ’and they started recording music. He recorded a couple of songs and then released ‘Isiginci’ as a single that featured Big Zulu. The song did very well and is currently one of the biggest afro pop songs in the country.

Mduduzi is busy finalizing his debut album titled ‘Istimela’ which is set to drop mid- November.
