Who is Blaq Diamond?

Blaq Diamond is an Afro Pop Dou. The Group is made up of Ndumiso Mdletshe and Sphelele Dunywa. Both members of the group are born and bred in Ladysmith, Kwazulu Natal.

How The Members Met

Ndu and Danya first met in 2010 when they were both involved in a cypher battle in school. They reliazed on that day that they were both talented and could benefit by working together. The Dou later moved to the city of Gold, Johannesburg in pursuit of their musical dream and to further their careers.

Blaq Diamond ‘s Sound

Their music is a mixture of different sounds from afro pop, Jazzy elements to some African infused sounds.
Their music spreads a message of love, hope, peace and respect, its music that always lifts people ‘s spirits.

Signing to Ambitiouz Entertainment

Blaq Diamond released a song called Sthandwa in 2017 which resulted in them getting signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment.

They got signed through a friend who sent through their music to Sjava. Sjava sent the music to Ambitiouz and they were called in for a meeting the next day. Because they were just amazingly talented.

Sthandwa was very well received by the masses and had great radio airplay, it really introduced the guys.

Their Debut Album ‘Inqola’

At the end of 2017, they released their debut album titled ‘Inqola’ that had 14 songs. Blaq Diamond says their music is mostly inspired by the likes of Malaika, Black Mambazo and Teargas. They produce their own music, from creating the sounds in studio to laying vocals.

They have worked so far with the likes of DJ Maphorisa, Sjava, Mono T and a whole lot more.

In 2019 they released their second body of work Umuthi, which debuted on the top 10 itunes Charts. And featured hit singles such as ibhanoyi , Memeza and Love Letter.
