Who is Barry Hilton?
Barry Hilton was born in Zimbabwe on the 29th of January 1957 and later relocated to South Africa, Cape Town. He was born by Irene Natalie Lieveaux, a French Mauritian descendant and Lancashire-born father Jack Hilton. Barry Hilton has been in the comedy industry for more than 3 decades. Mr Hilton’s act is intelligent, observational, impeccably timed and never crude, sexist or racist. Just enormously funny and has since added acting and being a motivational speaker to his already glamorous resume.
Growing Up
Barry Hilton attended High School at Observatory Boys (Now Rhodes High School) but dropped out at the age of 15 to complete an apprenticeship in electrical in 1974. Barry Hilton worked as maintenance manager at the Holiday Inn hotel in P.E. While working there, he met Johnny Noble who managed to give him his big break in comedy by offering him a slot on a comedy tv show, “Biltong and Potroas”.
Career
Barry Hilton has performed in numerous stages in South Africa and internationally, most notably Mr Hilton’s is the only South African to have performed at Runway Bar, Royal Swazi Sun and Wild Coast Sun. Barry is also the 1st South African comedian ever to perform at the Sun City Extravaganza. Barry Hilton opened up for international industry greats such as Bob Monkhouse, Bobby Davro, Billy Connolly and Les Dennis and is also the first South African to perform at London’s Comedy Store.
Television
Barry Hilton has appeared on numerous television sitcoms and tv shows. In Film, Barry was nominated for Best Actor at the Feel Good Film Festival in Hollywood for his role as Lenny in Finding Lenny, in 2009. He also appeared in the film Outrageous in 2010. Recently, he is also famously known to South Africans for his performances in a variety of television Commercials, most notably for Savanna ciders, in which he plays a dry, deadpan barman. He has played Larry the Barman every year since the start of the campaign in 1999.
